What is Alkaline Water

You may have heard various medical statements about alkaline water. Some say it can help reduce aging, improve body pH, and prevent chronic diseases such as cancer. But what exactly is alkaline water and causes all the problems?

The term “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH. PH is a scale that measures acidic or alkaline at 0 to 14. For example, pH 1 would be very acidic and pH 13 would be very alkaline. Alkaline water has a higher pH value than normal drinking water. Because of this, some advocates of alkaline water believe that it can remove acid from the body.

If you are also health-conscious & want to know about that which type of water you should consume & want to know more about water & product related to water then you must contact PuriCare. They have products like countertop water dispensers, Alkaline Dispensers, water coolers, etc.

Alkaline water has an 8 pH or 9 pH. While normal water has a neutral 7 pH. However, the acidity level by itself is not sufficient to provide high alkali in water.

Alkaline water must contain alkaline minerals and reduce the ability of negative oxidation (ORP). ORP is a powerful water-repellent pro or antioxidant. The lower the ORP value, the more antioxidants it has.

Does it really work?

Alkaline water is somewhat controversial. Many health professionals say there isn’t enough research to support the myriad of health claims made by users and retailers. Differences in study results may be related to the type of alkaline water study.

According to the Mayo Clinic, plain water is best for most people. They say there is no scientific evidence to support the claims of alkaline water advocates.

However, there are a number of studies showing that alkaline water can be helpful in certain situations.

For example, a reliable 2012 study found that naturally carbonated alkaline artesian water at a pH of 8.8 can help inactivate pepsin, the main enzyme that causes acid reflux.

Other studies have shown that drinking ionized alkaline water can benefit people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Subsequent study A reliable source involving 100 people found a significant difference in overall blood viscosity after drinking water with a high pH value compared to regular water after strenuous exercise. Viscosity is a measure of how efficiently blood flows through blood vessels.

Side effects and risks of alkaline water

Although alkaline drinking water is safe, it can also have negative side effects.

There are several examples of negative side effects of lowering the stomach’s natural acidity, which helps kill bacteria and stimulate other unwanted pathogens to enter the bloodstream.

Also, in general, too much base in the body can cause digestive problems and skin irritation. Excessive alkalinity can also stimulate the body’s normal pH, leading to alkaloid metabolism, a condition that can cause the following symptoms:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • hand tremors
  • muscle twitching
  • tingling in the extremities or face
  • confusion

Alkalosis can cause a decrease in free calcium in the body, which in turn affects bone health. However, the most common cause of hypocalcemia is not alkaline water consumption but dysfunction of the parathyroid glands.
