What To Do When Moving to Gainesville

Whether it is for your job or you are looking for a change of pace, there is much you need to do when you move to Gainesville, Florida. This college town has much to offer once you settle in. Here are a few steps to complete before you become part of the town.

Find New Providers

Research for a new dentist in Gainesville as well as a doctor. If you have medical insurance, find out which of them as in your network then select from those that are. Ask for recommendations of those people you know in town to see if there are providers they like and ones they would avoid. You should also look for someone who specializes in eye care and other specialties as well. Once you have chosen your new medical professionals, fill out the documentation to have your records transferred to them.

Change Your Information

Once you have a place to live, stop by the local post office and fill out a change of address form. You can also do this on the internet. Find out where the department of motor vehicles office is in the area and make an appointment to change your driver’s license also. If you are planning to stay in Gainesville for a long time, replace your license plates on your car as well.

Meet Your Neighbors

As you pass by those who live near you, take a moment to introduce yourself. If you are more outgoing, you can ask them about themselves and what is fun to do in the area. Contact your library or chamber of commerce and inquire if there are any clubs or groups that you might be interested in. Attend a meeting or two to see if the organization is a good fit for you. Ask your coworkers if they would like to go out for dinner or do another activity. Once you get to know the town and the people in it, the more apt you are to want to stay.

Find Out About City Regulations

Determine where the city facilities are in case you need to make a trip there. Ask which days of the week the trash is picked up in your neighborhood. If you live in an apartment or condominium, find out where you dispose of your garbage. Research for other regulations in the town such as the steps to have a garage sale or how to get a building permit if you must remodel.

Explore the Community

When you find a free moment in your schedule, take a walk around your neighborhood and look at what is around. Visit a local park and check out if there are bike trails or other amenities that you can enjoy later. Tour any historical places in the area or visitor attractions to learn more about where you live. Dine at restaurants owned by local people and shop at small businesses. Search social media for the pages of these companies, then like the page. This way you can see if there are events or sales that you might be interested in.
