Not getting enough sleep can make sleep apnea worse. Try to improve the quality of your sleep by cutting down on your caffeine intake. If you must have a hot drink before you go to bed opt for caffeine-free beverages. You should also consider taking the television out of your bedroom so you’re not tempted to stay up late and watch it. Finally, go to bed and get out of bed at the same time every day. Try not to have a lie-in even if you’re feeling tired.

Your doctor might suggest that you use a CPAP machine while you sleep. This is a machine that sends oxygen through a mask that you wear over your nose or mouth while you sleep. A CPAP machine can help you to breathe better while also improving your sleep quality. In addition to this, a machine can help to reduce the likelihood of you having high blood pressure.

There are also other treatments for this condition. You could, for example, wear a gum shield that keeps your airways open while you sleep. Alternatively, if you have large tonsils you could find that having them removed can help you to breathe a little better.

Sleep apnea does not have to control your life. With a bit of work, you could sleep better than ever before.
